| Did you know that your car has a brain?
Modern cars are equipped with onboard computers that record information such as oxygen flow, dates of engine failure, blown fuses, and even data telling you if the engine is running rich or lean.
If your car has airbags, the control module can record information about braking and speed, upon deployment. Very useful when filing a claim with your insurance company!
These devices have even been used in court to prove if drivers were speeding at the time of an accident. Doesn't it feel good to have someone watching over you? (Or is it just creepy?)
Visit your local auto parts dealer and ask if he or she has a code reader. Or, better yet, stop by and see your friendly neighborhood mechanic! | | |
| If you have ever looked under the hood of your car, you know that no sane person could have invented such a contraption. Sadly, people claiming to be sane try to fix their own cars. Consider the example of a person whose battery gauge was reading low. Rather than believing that his brand-new battery could possibly be dead, the man took apart the dash and tried to see if he could fix the gauge. On a digital readout. Obviously, this man did not get far. We received this dissaster one morning with a note saying there was something wrong with the gauge. Our mechanic took one look at the car and said, "Well, hah! To begin with, the gauge is lying on the passenger seat!" Turns out that a bad alternator had caused the first battery to fail, and consequently, the second one as well. Let that be a lesson to you! Gauges are right more often than you are! | | |
